Oceans

I.

A sea of people

Who naturally make waves

Brings what makes them ocean ashore

And are then accused of being tidal in nature

This begs the question, when was the role of the moon forgotten?

When did waxing and waning become stages of grief?

When breaking upon beach is a method of cleansing or penance

Where tears and blood get left on sand but melanin stays within the waves

Where pain can be counted on just like the moon being made anew every month

II.

The ocean is resilient

But is dying more and more every day

Becoming more acidic as the moon waxes and wanes

The ocean can only heal itself so much

You fault the ocean for being in disarray

That you forget man-made factors has sickened the body over time

Like slavery

like segregation

like hangings

like Tulsa burning

like sanctuaries burning

like bullet holes burning

Environmentalists debate whether the Tipping Point has been reached

If we are in a period of mass extinction

If the ocean is beyond saving

One can only hope that those respected within the field observe this phenomena

With a historical lens
